Douglas McGrath, Oscar-nominated screenwriter, dies at 64

“Bullets Over Broadway” Oscar-nominated screenwriter Douglas McGraw died Thursday in New York City.

He was 64.

The production company of Douglas McGrath's autobiographical "Everything Is Fine" announced on Friday that the director passed away suddenly on Thursday.

McGrath was in New York City at the time of his death, performing "Everything Is Fine" at Off-Broadway's DR2 Theater.

The play was billed as “a 90-minute high-wire act of alternately funny, poignant and shocking memoir for the stage”.

The Midland, Texas native began his career as a writer for “Saturday Night Live” and earned an Oscar nomination for co-writing “Bullets Over Broadway” with director Woody Allen.

He also wrote and directed the 1996 adaptation of “Emma” as well as “Nicholas Nickelby” and the 2006 Truman Capote biopic “Notorious.”
