Historic Lutsen Lodge destroyed in fire

The historic Lutsen Lodge, Minnesota's oldest operating resort, was destroyed by a fire early on February 6, 2024. No injuries were reported, but the building suffered a total loss.

The fire was spotted by a staff member who saw smoke coming from the lobby floor and immediately called 911. Fortunately, no guests were present at the time.

Firefighters from eight different departments across Cook County battled the blaze throughout the night, but ultimately the lodge could not be saved.

Despite the devastation, the lodge's management has vowed to rebuild the structure in its original design, preserving its historical significance and character.

The fire represents a significant loss for the community, as the lodge held cherished memories for countless individuals who celebrated weddings, honeymoons, and other special occasions there.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal. Officials are working to determine the origin and any contributing factors.
