According to Microsoft, the company will discontinue the version of Windows by January 10, 2023. By next month, Microsoft will start rolling out notifications for existing Windows 8.1 users to support the cutoff.
The notifications coming from the company will be the same as those issued during the remaining updates of Windows 7, which users got from the company for end-of-support.
Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 8 in 2016, while Windows 8.1 was still running at that time. Now the company has decided to completely stop support till January.
In addition to the shutdown, Microsoft will also no longer offer an extended security update for Windows 8.1 after January—which means no additional security patches will have to be paid for.
Be aware that many Windows 8.1 machines will not be able to support the latest Windows 11. Microsoft said - the reason for this is the restriction of the CPU.
